30 Pin vs 40 Pin Laptop Screen Connector — What's the Difference?

Getting the connector right is critical when ordering a replacement laptop screen. 30-pin and 40-pin eDP connectors are not interchangeable.

30 Pin eDP

Standard for most laptops from 2013–2019. Used on budget/mid-range laptops with FHD 60Hz screens.

Common on: Dell Inspiron 15 (older), HP Pavilion 15 (pre-2019), Lenovo IdeaPad 320/330/520, Asus VivoBook (older), Acer Aspire E15.

40 Pin eDP

Newer standard from 2018 onwards. Required for QHD, 4K and high refresh rate (120Hz+) screens.

Common on: Lenovo ThinkPad T490/X1 Carbon Gen 6+, Dell XPS 15 (newer), HP Omen, Asus TUF Gaming FX506, Acer Predator Helios 300 (newer).

How to Tell Which You Need

  • Check the part number sticker on the back of your screen
  • Visually inspect the connector — 30-pin is narrower than 40-pin
  • Search your laptop model number online
