How to Replace a Touch Screen Laptop Display
Replacing a touch screen is slightly more involved than a standard screen but absolutely achievable. The key difference: touch screens have two cables instead of one.
Important: Always Order a Touch Screen Replacement
A non-touch replacement will fit physically but touch functionality will be absent. Always verify the part number matches your original touch panel.
Step 1 — Remove the Bezel
Remove rubber screw covers, unscrew and carefully prise the bezel away from the frame.
Step 2 — Remove the Old Touch Screen
Tilt the panel forward. You'll see two cables:
- The video/data cable — the main eDP ribbon cable (30 or 40 pin)
- The digitiser/touch cable — a thinner cable with a ZIF connector
Disconnect both carefully. The touch cable ZIF connector has a locking tab — lift it before pulling.
Step 3 — Install and Test
Connect digitiser cable first, then video cable. Power on to test both display and touch before reassembling.
