How to Fix Laptop Screen Discolouration
Is your laptop screen showing yellow tints, pink hues or patches of discolouration? Here are all the causes and solutions.
Step 1 — Check Display Colour Settings
Check Night Light is off: Settings > System > Display > Night Light. Also check Calibrate Display Colour in Windows settings.
Step 2 — Update Display Drivers
Open Device Manager, expand Display Adapters, right-click and update your graphics adapter driver.
Step 3 — Test with External Monitor
If the external monitor shows correct colours, the fault is with the laptop screen or cable. If it also shows discolouration, the fault is with the GPU or drivers.
Step 4 — Check the Video Cable
A partially damaged cable can cause colour channels to drop out. Reseat the video cable on the back of the screen. If the tint changes when flexing the lid, the cable is faulty.
Step 5 — Physical Damage or Ageing Backlight
Irregular blotches or ink-like marks indicate physical damage — the panel needs replacing. Yellowing around edges on older laptops indicates backlight degradation.
